Many
employers wish for the attributes of an Available Jones type without fully
realizing it. Attributes such as experience, dependability, motivation,
level-headedness, social grace, honesty, proven talent. In addition, most
retired people automatically have a strong work ethic, and are free from the
pressures of having children at home, usually are not in the throes of a
high-maintenance romance, and own a dependable vehicle.
“Can they
use a computer?“ Some Available Jones people didn’t just grow up in the
computer age…they created the computer age!
Columbia,
Missouri is our stomping ground at this time…we have a few contacts in Jefferson
City, Boonville, Mexico, St. Louis and Kansas City. Until a network of “virtual
franchises” or “clones” is developed, we’re pretty much hometown types.
The cost
of using AJ as a source for employees is 6% of whatever the employee would make
(you and the employee agree on hourly rate) in 520 hours. For example, if
the employee made $10/hour, multiply that by 520 hours = $5,200. Six percent of
$5,200 = my fee, $312.
I can
also take the employee on my own payroll, and bill you every two weeks. The
cost of that depends on the usual payroll taxes plus worker’s compensation
insurance.
Even
though the office is based in Columbia Missouri, I would like to be contacted by
employers in other cities and states. Many retired people who have contacted me
after seeing the AJ story on the internet sent their resume even though they
live far from my base of operations. My desire is that a “retired people
working” network will get established, and soon employers and workers will be
able to find each other even if they don’t live in Columbia Missouri.

As of
this printing, there are about seventy five resumes on file; several engineers,
one farmer, three PhDs, salespeople, two dieticians, a golf pro, company
executives, a shipping clerk, a disaster-recovery instructor (relative to
computer-stored data), a forestry professor who like to bake, many computer
gurus, bookkeepers, retired nurses and teachers. All have indicated that,
under the right conditions, they’d surely like to work.

I’ve
personally checked references and provide the comments of those references when
sending a one-page resume summary in response to your inquiry. It’s my policy
not to recommend anyone I wouldn’t hire myself.
