The Future

"If we open a quarrel between the past and the present, we shall find that we have lost the future."

“Virtual” is in quotes for a very good reason. Everyone knows what a franchise is, but Available Jones doesn’t offer a franchise at this time. Maybe a clone.

The closest description of what Available Jones envisions is a network of offices doing the same thing, connected via a modest membership fee in a trade association headquartered at my place here, sharing leads, daily stories, gaining momentum, learning from each other. In addition to membership in a trade association, informal, without bylaws, the fee may include mention of your office in your town, access to the "Guide" I am preparing (read on), and contact with AJ’s website designer who may be able to create a website for you from this template at an attractive cost.

The name “Available Jones” is based on a “Lil’ Abner†” comic strip.  He was a character introduced in 1942, and was always available to his friends “fo’ a price, natcherly”. The use of the name Available Jones can be secured for a modest annual fee from the source, Al Capp Enterprises; or an office could create its own name.

I’m writing a guide about what it’s been like to set this business up, and hope to peddle it somehow, either by an e-printing or by actually having a publisher turn it into a bound volume.   A few chapter titles are:

  • “Why start a business dealing with retired people working?”

  • “Will you make money”?

  • "Gathering employees or gathering employers?”

  • “Sole Proprietor, LLC, S Corp, C Corp”

  • “Cost of getting set up”

  • “What’s in a Name”

  • “License/registrations/insurance”

  • “Public relations, advertising, networking, pounding the pavement”

  • “Deadbeat employers”

  • “Setting prices”

The Guide is about half finished, and readers who are experienced businesspeople will find it very elementary, but perhaps entertaining.   Those who are like me, rank beginners,  will probably find it very helpful.

Since it isn’t finished, and we don’t know what final form it will take, stay tuned for more information.  As I mentioned, it might be part of the membership package for the “retired people working” network of offices.
